- Do I Give Up Control of My Mind in Hypnosis?
The short answer is NO. This is probably the biggest question most people have. Usually because of stage hypnotist shows people have seen. At no time does anyone give up control of their mind while using hypnosis. So that means that even in stage hypnosis, everyone is in agreement with what they are doing. If at any time someone were to suggest something that was not ok with your bottom line core beliefs, you would simple pop back to full awareness and not participate.
- What is Hypnosis and could it work for me?
Hypnosis is a natural state everyone goes into, and out of, frequently. Who hasn't had a moment of pulling into the driveway and not remembering the last 10 minutes of driving, or zoning out the window during a meeting or class?
This natural state is most commonly experienced in times of creativity, athletic events (the Zone) focusing, meditation, flow, daydreaming, etc…. Hypnosis is at its core a heightened state of focus and awareness (of varying degrees), that with practice, is accessed and controlled by you. It is truly most like a state of lucid dreaming.
Hypnosis is a powerful tool in building new life skills, breaking free of old patterns, flowing in life more smoothly, improving concentration, increasing confidence, improving sports performance, and much more.**
- How Does Hypnosis Work?
In using hypnosis, the conscious mind is focused to such a degree that everything else fades away. This focused state is achieved by using a guided imagery and relaxation method similar to what is used in meditation, biofeedback, and guided relaxations.
This process of visualizing and relaxing is a great way to access the power of the mind-body connection and to step out of our ruts in life and see a new horizon of options and possibilities. Using this picture as an example; it is easy to see that you have a much wider perspective sitting on top of the hillside here looking out over the horizon vs. sitting down in one of the river valleys by the river.
As the mind focuses, the body lets go and relaxes completely. This provides an access point for individuals to connect deeply within and access their own inner guidance and compass more fully. From this space it is easier to shift perceptions and responses to stressful situations, and release habits and patterns that no longer work.
People also learn stronger coping skills, how to increase their intuition, concentration, and clarity as they access this focused state more readily. These skills build greater confidence and calmness in a wide range of life experiences.**
